Adult Learners’ Week Courses at the Zone Community Learning Centre
On your Bike
Monday 14 May 1.30pm – 4.30pm
This fantastic and fun three hour course will teach you all the basics of bike maintenance. Topics include wheels, brakes and routine bike servicing. To take part you will need a bike, enthusiasm and some basic tools, although tools can be provided if necessary.
Geo-Cache – Map Reading
Thursday 17 May 1.30pm – 4.30pm
For many the countryside is a source of refreshment, leisure and relaxation and the key to accessing it, and all it has to offer, is a map and compass. This course will show you the basic information you need to start map reading and give you the confidence to start exploring the countryside around you.
During this session you will learn:
- an understanding of grid references
- how to identify key features on a map
- how to orient the map when out and about
- how to use identifiable points on the landscape to find your own location
You will also get the opportunity to put your new skills to the test
Fun with Wool
Friday 18 May 10am – 12noon
Ever wanted to get into knitting, but didn’t know where to start? Explore a variety of yarns and equipment from making a pom-pom, using a French knitting doll, to plaiting a bracelet or making a wool collage.

Local centre invites you to learn new skills for free
April - July 2012
The VRDS learning
centre, based in Watling Street, Northwich, is running a range of
new courses from April to July 2012. These courses are free
to members of the local Northwich community and surrounding
areas.
The courses on offer include basic computing and IT for beginners, employability programmes designed to help people back into work, and lifestyle courses such as digital photography, buying and selling on eBay, saving money online, and social networking. There is also an exciting new course to be run entitled ‘explore local history online’ and aimed at the older generation in which they can share their memories and photos of Northwich and surrounding area in times past to help build a historical online picture of the area. In addition, there is the opportunity for individual learners to become digital champions, where they can become certified to promote learning throughout the local community.

Wanted – Running Leaders for your area
You don’t need speed to lead. If you are keen to share your love of running, are supportive, patient and excited by the success of others, then you could help beginner runners to get started.

Emergency First Aid at Work (HSE and FAA)
Wednesday 16 May 2012, 9am to 4.30pm
Cheshire Community Development Trust is holding a one day Emergency First Aid at Work course at Waterside House, Navigation Road, Northwich, CW8 1BE.
Course content includes your responsibilities, action in an emergency, primary and secondary assessment of casualty, resuscitation, dealing with wounds, bleeding, burns and scalds.
This course costs £60 per person, which includes lunch, training materials and the online test.

Charity Midnight Walk

Join 1750 women of all ages for this 13.1mile challenging and fun sponsored walk.
Starting from MMU in Crewe and walking to Nantwich and back to raise funds for St Luke’s Hospice. A half moon 6.5 mile walk is also available.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Solstice Event

To accompany the CAN Midsummer Night's Dream exhibition at Castle Park Arts Centre, Castle Park, Frodsham is hosting a free entry event from 6pm to 9pm on 21 June to celebrate the Summer Solstice.
The event will centre around the Arts Centre courtyard, with performances - including dance, music, poetry and prose readings, installations, a Solstice invocation and Raku firing plus much more - taking place around the park, conservatory and gardens. Artists from the Loerrach Artists Group in Germany, who are taking part in the exhibition, will be attending the event.

Northwich River Weaver Festival
22 – 24 June 2012
Three local waterways volunteer groups are coming together to organise the largest waterways event held in Northwich since 1979.
The River Weaver Navigation Society, the Broken Cross Boat Club and the Inland Waterways Association (Chester and District branch) will host the Northwich River Weaver Festival over the weekend of 22 – 24 June 2012. These organisations will also work in partnership with the Development of Arts in Northwich and are appealing to local organisations to get aboard with the plans for this fantastic weekend which will positively promote the town and its local waterways.
The festival site will be between Town and Hayhurst Bridges and over 100 boats are expected including historic craft. Event organisers are very keen for this festival to celebrate Northwich and its heritage and feel it is important for other organisations to get involved.

Neuromuscular Centre's Wag ‘N’ Walk

Sponsored Dog Walk for the Neuromuscular Centre on
Saturday, 30 June, 12 noon start. A completely accessible two
mile route around Marbury Country Park, Northwich.
All friendly dogs and owners welcome!
Entry costs £5 per dog which includes sponsor form and a goody bag
on the day. The entry cost excludes car parking charges. No minimum
sponsorship is required.
Prizes for the best dressed dog and best behaved dog. Stalls
and refreshments will be available.

Carers’ Informatation and Awareness event
Cheshire West and Chester Carers’ Training Group are organising the
following two Carers’ Information and Awareness events in spring
2012:
• Thursday 8 March - Ellesmere Port Boat Museum, 10.30am -
1pm, ending with lunch
• Tuesday 27 March - Vale Royal Abbey, 10.30am - 1pm, ending
with lunch
These events are useful for both carers and individuals working in health and social care as they provide an update on strategy and key policies and also give an opportunity to gain an understanding of the range of support services available in the area.
Carers can also enjoy a free pamper session, funded by North West Joint Improvement Partnership and given by members of the Carers’ Training Group.
