Marbury Country Park

A former residence of the Smith-Barry family, Marbury Country Park is at the heart of the Northwich Woodlands. The walks and trails take visitors through the historical landscape which includes the magnificent lime avenues and the arboretum. Whilst only the raised terraces and stone walls remain they serve to provide a window to the park's splendid history; from grandiose manor house through to the war years as prisoner of war camp, and finally its sad demolition in the 1970s.

Budworth Mere provides a beautiful backdrop to the ancient woodland, open parkland and many streams that provide a rich haven for a host of wildlife from bats to beetles.  Home to many rare species, the parkland is a must for all nature lovers.

Visitors are able to enjoy the children's play area, orienteering course and wide range of events throughout the year or simply enjoy a picnic in the sunshine

Further information

The Friends of Anderton and Marbury (FoAM) are a group of local residents who have come together to support, influence and play an active role in the future of Northwich Woodlands. The group was founded in 1999 and has since grown to a membership of over 160.  Around 20 members are regular volunteers who help the Cheshire West and Chester Rangers on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The group organises events throughout the year and publishes a regular newsletter.

The park hosts Cheshire West and Chester Council's Ranger Service for the Northwich Woodlands.

The site also hosts Marbury Swimming Club, an open air pool for members. Email the membership secretary, jeanette.unsworth@uk.ngrid.com for more information.

Exploring further afield

Why not explore the rest of the Northwich Woodlands?  Stroll through the meadow at Furrey Wood, follow the wildflower trail at Anderton Nature Park or catch a glimpse of the wildlife at Ashton’s and Neumann’s Flashes.

With the exception of the island site of Furrey Wood, all other sites lie within the heart of the Northwich Woodlands. Cyclists can explore the links with national cycle ways, whilst pedestrians can combine a visit to Northwich Woodlands with routes such as the North Cheshire Way.
