Closure of Capenhurst Grange Special School 20 June 2012 Capenhurst Grange Special School will be closed tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday following the discovery of low levels of Legionella bacteria in the school’s hot water system. The system will be immediately fully cleaned and chlorinated and water will not be suitable for use by pupils while this process is being carried out. The discovery was made during a routine inspection by specialist contractors working on behalf of Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Building Maintenance Team. Said a Council spokesman: “The school was immediately informed that pupils could not use showers or spray taps on the affected system until it had been fully chlorinated. “It is important to stress that there has been no illness amongst pupils or staff and the bacteria levels detected did not present a danger.” Today (Wednesday) the Headteacher was informing the parents and carers of its 50 pupils that the school will close until the affected supply has been completely cleaned and chlorinated. It is expected to reopen on Monday.
