The Helping Hands project
Helping Hands is a proactive project, working with customers to identify people who are in need, by collecting information about poverty, and targeting help appropriately. Our aim is to get people into work and out of debt wherever possible. There are no criteria for people to meet, so anyone who needs help can have it.
The areas that have been visited so far on this project are Westminster and Rossmore areas of Ellesmere Port and in Rudheath and Witton in Northwich. Other areas of Cheshire West and Chester are planned to be visited in due course.
The customers visited so far on the project are in receipt of Housing and/or Council Tax Benefits. They are families with children and working age customers with no children. There are also plans to visit pension age customers and also residents not currently in receipt of Housing and/or Council Tax Benefits.
The Benefits Service has a Visiting team who are happy to go and visit anyone who requires Welfare Benefits advice. They can also give advice about other services available and signpost the customer to the relevant service.
They also run weekly surgeries in the Cheshire West and Chester area. They are as follows:
- Neston Town Hall, 10am to 12.30pm
- The Edge, Winsford, 2pm to 4pm
- Advice and Money Link, Ellesmere Port Market, 10am to 1pm
- The HHEET Centre, Ellesmere Port Market, 2pm to 4pm
- Blacon Children's Centre, 10am to 12pm
- Chester Market, 9.30am to 12pm
