New bus connections for Neston

19 June 2012

Cheshire West and Chester Council and Neston Town Council have agreed to jointly fund an experimental local bus service for residents.

After listening to public concern about public transport connections around the Neston area, a new service was devised to both link parts of the town not currently served, and also complement the existing bus services.

Promoted under the “Neston Connect” banner, this new minibus service will be operated by GHA Coaches with a small, low floor accessible bus.

It will run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays linking Breezehill Road, Bendee Avenue, Stonebank Drive, Ness and Burton with Neston town centre. There will also be journeys to Earle Drive and The Priory.

The trial will be evaluated and reviewed in the autumn.

Cheshire West and Chester Council also work with Ellesmere Port and Neston Community Transport, providing a Neston-based community car scheme, having invested in a wheel chair accessible car. The car scheme may be used by local residents who are unable to use local bus services because of mobility impairment.

Councillor Lynn Riley, Executive Member for Community and Environment, said: “I am pleased that Neston residents will have the benefit of both these services, which are a result of working together and focusing on the needs of the local community.

“The bus service and the car scheme combine to help ensure that residents can access their local services and facilities, supporting the vibrancy of this town.”

Mayor of Neston Town Council, Councillor Pat Hughes, said: “Neston Town Council welcomes the new Neston Connect service which has been introduced in response to requests made consequent to the rerouting of the 272 service.

“It is hoped that the level of usage will be such as to allow us to perhaps expand the service and would urge residents to consider the bus as a viable alternative to the car for local journeys. Good support is essential to maintaining this service.

“The new community car will be a valuable asset for those of restricted mobility and the Town Council would like to express its appreciation to those volunteers who have made this service possible.”
