Programme of theatre workshops for local music and drama groups
29 April 2010
Key theatre professionals from around the region will be leading a programme of theatre workshops aimed at local music and drama groups titled A Stage Further.
Cheshire West and Chester Council together with Cheshire East and Warrington Councils are working with Cheshire Theatre Guild and the National Operatic and Dramatic Association to offer the programme of events.
This is the fifth year of the A Stage Further programme, with workshops this year running in Northwich and Knutsford during May and June.
Judith Croft will be returning by popular demand, to run a Set Design workshop. Judith is a freelance designer at venues including the Library Theatre Company, Manchester, and Theatre Clwyd.
Matthew Hopkins, Director of Music at Nottingham Trent University and Director of Youth Choir UK, will lead a session designed to explore group singing. His Working with Voices workshop will help organisations to get the most out of their ensembles. The Associate Director at Theatre by the Lake, Stefan Escreet, will lead a directing workshop to get fresh, well-paced performances in limited rehearsal time.
And there’s more for those involved behind the scenes with a series of hands on workshops. After the success of last years lighting courses there will be Beginner and Advanced Lighting Workshops run by Angie Berwick, a freelance theatre technician and Technical Manager for Black Chair Theatre Company. There will also be a costume design workshop by Judith Croft.
Emma Knight, Arts Development Officer for Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “These workshops have proven to be extremely valuable for groups from across the county. Feedback from previous courses has shown that the days have been inspiring, fun and informative for participants and that the skills learnt can be easily transferred to their own performances.”
The workshops are priced at £20 a day. There is a £5 discount if an additional workshop is booked either for yourself or for another person from your organisation.
