The Great Tour cycle event comes to Neston

20 April 2010

The Great Tour, a marathon cycle event around Britain’s coastline during July to September, will be coming through Neston, one of the 64 stages of a 6500km route.  The Tour will start on the 3 July in Seaton, Devon, and wind its way anti-clockwise around the coastline ending in Seaton on the 4 September 2010.

The riders will average 103km each day taking in every seaside port, village, town, cove and bay along every kilometre of coastline accessible by bicycle.  The tour will cycle from Preston to Neston on Sunday, 15 August and will set off from Neston heading to Conwy on Monday, 16 August.

There is a fantastic opportunity for you or anyone you know to take part for free; be it to cycle the entire route, take part as a team or take part the day it comes through our area.  The group of riders will be fully supported by a team of experts and led by Daley Thompson (Olympian) and Jim Rees (the ultra long distance cyclist).

The tour is being promoted as a celebration of the British coastline as well as a charity ride supporting The Prostate Cancer Charity and Caravan - The National Grocers' Benevolent Fund.

This event is in addition to the Tour Series Race which will be coming to Chester on 21 June 2010.

More information about how to get involved is available on The Great Tour website. Visit the Cycle Chester website for information on other cycle events happening in the area.
