Council’s Streetscene team help organise community litter pick in Neston
23 April 2012
Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Streetscene team has helped a community group in Neston organise a litter pick after a request from high school students.
The Community Activities in Neston (CAN) Group is a grant-funded community group that has successfully organised family activity programmes since 2005. They aim to give families some quality time, learning and playing together, while also enhancing the community through organised events.
The event resulted in an impressive 32 large bags of litter being picked up from across Neston town centre.
Local ward councillor, Louise Gittins said: “The idea for a litter pick came up at a workshop I was leading for Neston Youth Voice, run as a joint venture between the High School and the Town Council in Neston. This was a great example of the community working together and with such wonderful results.”
Eileen Miller, CAN’s Project Manager said: “We were delighted with how many people turned up to help and amazed at how much litter we all collected.”
At the event the Streetscene team worked with the CAN Group, local ward councillor Louise Gittins, Neston Town Council, young people who attended the recent Neston Youth Seminar, Neston Rotary Club, Neston Community Day Services, the Neston Centre, and many local residents.
