Rural funding available for local community groups and organisations

30 April 2012

Community groups and organisations are being urged to apply for the rural support grant from Cheshire West and Chester and the latest deadline for submissions is Thusday, 31 May.

Other deadlines are Sunday, 30 September and Thursday, 31 January.

The Rural Fund has awarded 37 applications in the past two years months amounting to £645,000, helping to deliver capital based projects with a total value of just over £6.9m within the Borough.

The Cheshire West and Chester Rural Support Fund accepts applications from community organisations, charitable groups and other constituted groups who are carrying out work for the benefit of their local community.

To be eligible, projects require match funding of 50 percent and can apply for between £5,000 and £50,000. Projects should be completed within a year after receiving funding.

Said Councillor Ralph Oultram, Chairman of the Rural Support Funding Steering Group: “We have been impressed with the applications submitted by community groups since the programme began in May 2010. We have seen a real difference this funding can make to our rural communities.

“I would urge community groups to apply for the funding if they have any project proposals which they believe could be eligible for support through this grant.”

Successful applications to date have helped deliver projects for village hall and community hall refurbishments, sports facilities, play area schemes and environmental improvements across west Cheshire.
