Engineering works begin on Northwich gyratory road system
9 January 2012
Engineering work begins today (Monday 9 January) in Northwich in preparation for the experimental one way system which will be installed later this month.
The preparatory work will be undertaken in phases over the next three weeks and includes changing signs, road markings, traffic signals and putting up temporary barriers. Temporary signals will be put in place while the phased work is underway and these will be manually controlled at peak hours.
Councillor Lynn Riley, Executive Member for Community and Environment said: ‘It is inevitable that a scheme of this nature would require works to be undertaken in preparation for the one way system to become operational and for the travelling public to be informed..
“These preparatory road works may cause some delays to motorists but they have being programmed to keep disruption to a minimum.
“Variable message signs will be erected on all approaches to Northwich to keep motorists informed of the road works and the operational date for the new one way system.”
There will also be two weekend closures on Saturday 14 January at night and all day Sunday 15 January on Watling Street and on Sunday 22 January at the same location.
Diversion routes will be in place.
The experimental one way system becomes operational on Sunday 29 January 2012.
Further information on the road closures can be obtained via the Weaver Valley website or telephone the Council’s Highways department on 0300 123 7036.
