Northwich woman pleaded guilty to benefit fraud
7 September 2010
A 38-year-old Barnton woman has been sentenced after pleading guilty to being overpaid over £2,700 in Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Income Support and In Work Credit.
Janet Ann Bennett of Westfield Grove, Barnton, appeared before Northwich Magistrates Court.
She had previously admitted four offences of failing to promptly notify Cheshire West and Chester Council and the Department for Work and Pensions of a change in her circumstances that she knew would affect her entitlement to benefits, namely that she had failed to declare employment and knowingly making a false representation for the purpose of obtaining In Work Credit.
She was fined £165 and ordered to pay £75 prosecution costs.
Mrs Bennett is required to fully repay the overpaid benefit to Cheshire West and Chester Council and the Department for Work and Pensions.
