Open day at Festival Park launches new facilities

2 September 2010

Local people have attended an event to celebrate the completion of a range of new facilities at Festival Park in Ellesmere Port.

As well as making the most of new play facilities, games such as Connect 4, Chess, Draughts and Snakes and Ladders were also be available - in giant form.

Cllr Richard Short, Executive Member for Culture and Recreation, opened the free event, which took place on Thursday, 2 September.

Councillor Short said: "What a fabulous opportunity to welcome local people into the newly refurbished park - the new facilities will really make a difference to those within the area."

Cheshire Police's events vehicle attended the event - providing access to the internet, fun finger prints, a quiz and the opportunity to discuss local police issues with a PCSO.

Home Watch and Anchor Housing were also on site offering advice to local residents.

Festival Park has recently benefited from upgraded facilities under the national Playbuilder scheme - aimed at providing high quality, safe play areas for young people.

Council employees worked with local children aged between eight and 13, who lived close to the play area, to help choose the play equipment that suited their needs.
