Our Winsford Library
The Friends of Winsford Library, otherwise known as Our Winsford Library (OWL), was established in March 2009. OWLs are volunteers and are residents of Winsford.
What OWL do:
a) Promote Winsford Library to the wider community.
b) Act as a consultative panel to provide feedback on proposals and developments affecting the Library.
c) Bid for funds from relevant bodies and otherwise raise funds.
d) Organise community events and improve facilities at the Library.
e) Consult the local community about service provision at the Library, now and in the future.
f) Work with other local organizations and community groups.
g) Obtain enjoyment from the social and practical aspects of liaison with the Library staff and users.

The OWLs aim to run monthly coffee mornings, booksales, quizzes and other events. In December 2009 a “Christmas in the Library” event attracted record numbers of visitors to the Library. These are popular events appealing to the local community.
Use of funds
During 2009, OWLs raised more than £2000 for the Library. Additionally, a grant to the value of £500 was received from Winsford Town Council.
Income has been used as follows:
- Purchase of a floor display spinner for children’s audio books
- Part-funding of consultant’s report for improvement of external grounds
- Cost of animal handling event on World Book Day
The balance of funds is held for future use by the Library, and is done so after consultation with the Library Manager.
Be a Friend … or an OWL!
If you, like us, feel that Winsford Library is an important part of the community and you have some spare time, you'll be pleased to read that it's free to join the OWLs. In return for helping out at events members of OWLs are entitled to free loans of DVDs and CDs from the Library.
If you would like to join the group, or would like more information, simply email firstname.lastname@example.org or pop into the Library and let us know. We will be glad to see you.
Your commitment can be as much or as little as you want it to be, from just being amongst the first to hear of future events to helping at coffee mornings and other events.
